Yoshiharu Utagawa Galleries

Yoshiharu (1828-1888) drew the pictures for several woodblock-printed picture books featuring flowers and birds. Click on their titles, shown below, to see these pictures. While Yoshiharu chose to depict real species of flowers and birds neither their shapes nor colors were true-to-life. His pictures were likely intended to simply entertain their purchasers by depicting real species in a novel way.
